Trade
Trade is an important part of the economy and life in general in Mythia. Trading began as gifts sent by the Mythians that had left the island to explore the rest of the world. These Mythians became the Ancient World Gods of legend. In order to hide their fame, prestige and power over the humans, the Ancient Gods did everything they could to keep other Mythians from leaving the island. They would give the Mythians just a taste of the new world through messages and gifts. When this no longer was effective and the Mythians depending their return home the Ancient gods cursed the island. This curse trapped all Mythians on its shore.
The curse however did not cover the humans that had not eaten the eternity fruit so there were a handful of pirates and sea merchants that could leave the island. There was no money exchange as the Mythians weren't in need of coin but the promise of retiring on the island and becoming a Mythian became the price. Those that took the deal lived longer than most humans (up to 200 years) and keep their youthfulness.

What happens to the merchandise once it arrives at the docks?
Upon arrival the merchandise is presented to the Harbor Master. The Harbor Master has control over who gets the items brought to the islands. Any one that is brought to the island as a slave is freed the moment they step foot on the docks. The person will be made a citizen and will be free unless they commit a crime or sold or captured. (See Captivus link below for more information)

How does the Harbor Master decide who gets what?
This is done through trade. In many cases the Governors of the Town and Village will go to the Harbor Master and negotiate the trade deal for that area. Shop owners and even citizens may try and negotiate on their own. Shop Owners and Citizen may also put in a request to the Harbor Master for anything that is not on the island.

Merchants (Shop Owners)
Merchants run shops in the town and the village. These business' offer all sorts of product from candles to the bathhouse slave girl. Before humans arrived on the island, the idea of business and profit was not a concern of the Mythians. In fact, they tended to stay away from the material things. They felt that was a human thing.
As the market stands went up so did the need to barter and trade within the island. This lead to items having prices and even a loose form of currency. The Mythians found no need for the coins however the Elder council allowed it as they still wanted the humans to give them favor. A type of Mythian currency is formed. The business owners has the choice in bartering or use of coin. Some business' enjoyed the idea of money while other continued in trade.
The Class System in Mythia
The Mythians had heard about how the humans segregated themselves in classes based on their wealth or the importance they felt they had within a city. When the humans started growing in numbers on the island, some of those that came from the upper classes once again tried to segregate people based on their wealth, job, and even appearance. The Mythian's didn't stop it at first as it seemed to be done just among the humans. That changed when the humans class system moved to Mythians and some Mythians were turned away of made fun of because the "upper class" felt they weren't good enough to be around them. One of the rare times that both councils agreed that this needed to stop. The humans were the ones below not the Mythians. They made the decision to end the class system. Any human claiming to be more important or wealthier than anyone else on the island, found themselves as Island slaves until they were able to humble themselves. House size, dress or even job status does not make a difference. Everyone was equal and would remain that way.

Currency On the Island
The current form of currency on the island was made from seashells. The councils chose one skilled artist to make the coin. This craftsmen makes the coin in secrecy and the design is so intricate that it cannot be duplicated. There is no name for the coin but there are three different ones.
Smallest being worth 1, (roughly the size of a US Dime),
Medium Size shell 5 (roughly the size of a US Quarter)
Large Size shell 20 ( roughly the size of a US Half dollar)
Not all shops trade in the coin many still barter, in fact most stores allowed bartering or the currency. (This is the decision to each shop owner.
